Some might remember I complained to the council about two restaurants blocking one of our doors. One puts their tables and chairs in front of it and the other hasn't pruned their olive trees so the branches are in front of the door.
In an automated reply the council promised to respond within 5 business days, which would be the July 7. I never heard from them, I really didn't expect them to react. Until yesterday, when I got a phone call.
Over the weekend they checked several times and at all times the outdoor seating was arranged in such a way that they were over the markers (aka pins) that delineate the outdoor seating area. Especially when people were sitting at the tables our door was completely blocked. So they are going to have a talk with the restaurant and when doing the rounds they will pay extra attention if the restaurant keeps their seating within their boundaries.
The trees is another story. They did see the branches were in front of the door. The problem is that the pots the trees are planted in aren't outside of the boundaries of the restaurant, just the branches. They are still trying to find out if they can legally do anything about that.
It'll be interesting to see what is going to happen. I'm half expecting the chef/manager from the restaurant of the seating to come by, but since our store's closed now that will be more difficult. And it isn't as if we haven't asked them over a dozen times in the last year. If they keep doing it I can always contact the council, I've got a case file number. The trees I'm less bothered by; if the seating isn't over the boundary of the other restaurant there's enough space to avoid those.
