Here in Tennessee they do that at the end of July and it's targeted at stuff for school, covering clothing, school supplies and computers. Since it is back-to-school season, there's larger than normal multipacks of socks & underwear that save you money as well. Add in no tax, and it's a great deal. It makes a lot of sense to do your back-to-school shopping on tax free weekend. Sales tax is 9.25% here, so you can save a lot on a computer.

But don't try to go to Sevierville with the outlet malls on tax free weekend unless you can go on Friday. I had to do that one year on a Saturday and it took us nearly an hour to get from the interstate to the outlet mall. Normally that's no more than ten to fifteen minutes.
