Sort order of books on device reverses after deletions

I don't connect my Kindle Oasis to calibre very often, but tonight I did so to remove a bunch of calibre periodicals from the device.

So I sort the device by title A-Z and plan to work my way through the list, removing several of each magazine as I go through the alphabet. But when I bulk delete several issues of (eg) Atlantic Magazine, after the deletion the list scrambles itself and reverses the sort order to titles Z-A instead of A=Z, and the selected item is now the last item at he top of the list instead of where I left off, now something beginning with Z. So I have to reverse the sort and scroll back through the list to see where I might have left off.

This seems to be very strange behavior. And makes it difficult to edit a list of items in an orderly fashion.
