Basically, it doesn't matter whether you are "illuminated" by a bright object (bw screen) or by a darker but illuminated object with the same brightness (Kaleido 3 screen).
The color filter layer lets less light through from the screen. It is therefore darker and can only be made brighter by incident light.
The problem here lies in the uniformity of the illumination of such a large area - this was successful with the Tab Ultra C (10.3), but not with the Tab X (b/w) as far as I am informed.
I can only recommend 13.3 and color if uniform brightness is not particularly important to you.
