A success story. I managed to slipstream USB 3.0 drivers into a Windows 7 Ultimate install, and was able to install it into an old HP G3 800 mini computer. It took using a TP-link AC1300 WiFi dongle and an external CD-ROM drive to get the WiFi working, but that is working, as well.
Why? To use old software already paid for, in native mode.
The next challenge - to install XP on the machine!
(These boxes are "dirt cheap" (for working computers) refurbs. Around $100 USD for the computer, $20 for the dongle; and then as much (or as little) as you want to spend for hardware upgrades (memory bump and/or bigger SSD/Hard drive).
The 21st Century equivalent of turning a heap into a hot rod.
