When's the last time you had nothing to read?

A strange and scary thing happened yesterday. Due to having been off work for 4 days last week for surgery and recovery, I was able to read a lot. Read a Hugo nominee, delete, then go to the next one on my reader. I finished "The Voyage Out" and deleted it.

Suddenly, my reader was empty! I had nothing to read!! Total panic, just for a moment. Then I remembered the hundreds of books on my computer that I could re-read. But instead, I went and bought some new ones. I don't really expect to ever be without reading material ever again.

I just found it was funny how my brain clenched and stomach seized for a moment at the thought of having nothing to read.

PS: IMnotsohumbleO, the Hugos this year are mostly drab and depressing. Sign of the times, I suppose, with the wars and economy and such. But there were a few sparkling gems among the darker stories.
