The few occasions where I am browsing for a new read, I tend to toss out the 5 star and 1 star reviews. I find the 3 and 4 star reviews tend to be more useful to me that the puffery of the 5 star reviews and the whinging of the 1 star reviews.

OTOH, I seldom visit GoodReads after the year when I spent a fair chunk of my browsing time on there, I found I was getting little useful information about books I might want to read.
