An author choosing not to use threadmarks is an issue that's
been discussed before and
more recently (and briefly), but it's been a while.

And then there's the issue of over-use; because inevitably someone(s) would decide to use it to archive the entirety of all their favorite long discussion threads. If enough people start doing that, it's likely to use significant server resources, drawing attention from the admins and possibly prompting them to block the tool.

FYI, the threadmark Reader mode only displays threadmarked posts. I wouldn't advocate bugging authors about it, but that suggests to me that the site also expects all story posts to be threadmarked.
