Use a 3rd party epub reader app as Apple's own "Books" is a bit proprietary.
Possibly Bluefire or Pocketbook on iOS (I have those on Android and I'm told they work on iOS).

I found Apple's Music Player a pain. I had to find a Windows PC and install iTunes, whereas 3rd party players could see files transferred direct from Linux. A now dead iPhone.
