I don't expect full USB 3 transfer speeds, but I would at least have thought that it could match the USB 2 speeds on a device 3 years older.

Thanks for doing those tests JSWolf, it appears the transfer rate on mine is slightly below average but not a huge difference. I may try to exchange it for another one and see if I get the same result.
