As you've already found,
eFiction is (was?) a popular fanfiction hosting software.
Speaking off the cuff, I believe that support and interest for eFiction has waned in recent years, due in large part to the rise of AO3 as a more inclusive alternate to ffnet.
In 2014 John Doe contributed code for the
base_efiction_adapter that can be used with many (most?) eFiction sites with much less custom coding than before.
FFF supports 22 sites using base_efiction and many more with site specific code. Any site with story URLs containing viewstory.php is +90% eFiction.
I believe the change history of John Doe's contribs have been buried between the switch from code.google to github and later dir restructuring, but they should be acknowledged.
