Yes, that's intended one of uses for site sections.
You need to check the "Allow custom_columns_settings from personal.ini to override" box in FFF Config's Custom Columns tab to use
custom_columns_settings.

Hovering over the 'last week' link in "HowardJeng commented last week" gives me May 27.
That's when the issue was reported. Looking at the last updated dates on the fics lists, the one that was still good updated May 20 and the earliest 'bad' one was updated May 22.
