I think I discovered my new favorite Ardbeg variety - Heavy Vapours - distilled without using a purifier to remove the rising vapours - and the result is fantastic. The initial nose is earthy & smoky (with I think some underlying phenol), the smoky persists. It finishes surprisingly light - I'm tasting chocolate, possibly coffee. This is a complex taste treat that I am going to cultivate. Wowzer!
