I'd recommend charging it up till it thinks it's 100%, then just reading on it like you normally would.
Light set at whatever level you will read at.
Use a sleep cover to put it to sleep when you're not reading (cheaper version, not kobo) or just put it to sleep manually
I do this and don't charge mine more than once a week or so, and read several hours a day.

What I'm saying is just use it like a reader rather than checking and rechecking battery figures, and chances are you'll find you[re happy with it.
