In case you are still reading, I am pretty sure that by USB connection they meant USB Protocol. The actual specification on how the signal from mouse/keyboars/etc looks like in the cable itself. The Audio Accessory mode isn't part of this -- it's more of the part of the specification of USB port rather than the USB Protocol.

(Note: this is a gross simplification)
