Bear in mind that using ADE DRM would cost Amazon money and reduce the profit on each book.
Amazon could, I suppose, keep their current DRM and use it on epubs, but since the DRM would not allow use on non-Kindle devices/apps--Amazon DRM is tied to the serial number of the device or app it is sent to-- so there would be very little point to shifting to epub with Amazon DRM. (In a sense that is what KF8 really did already, TBH.)
