In my current read the author's writing style seems to be to keep spoilering (that's a word!) his own work. I've read 6 chapters and there have been four spoilers so far:
"didn't know it then... but he'd be needing some courage" so that person is going to meet trouble!
"not have been quite so confident if she'd known that..." spoiler about another character follows.
"unaware of it at the time... would hold their fate in his hands within three days" total loss of any suspense in that thread of the narrative.
"if they'd known what was coming... the horror that was to follow" aaaargh!
If this continues the book is going to be a DNF. sigh
