Yes, you'll still be able to convert to mobi and read those mobis on your old Kindle. That isn't going to change. If you want to use your old Kindle, convert to mobi. Kindles don't and won't read epubs directly. The news about Amazon using epub doesn't mean you can read those epubs on a Kindle without converting.
