Not being able to find a 7 inch reader without buttons, I decided to solve the problem by having two ereaders. For travel, I'll take the Clara 2E. For home, I bought a Sage.
I know the Sage has an 8 inch screen, but I figured that for home use, I may as well go large. The Sage is still small enough for easy handling vs a 10 inch screen.
One nitpick - I wish that the Sage did not have the extra layer on top. It does make it slightly worse than my old Clara HD. After reading on the Sage for a bit, you no longer notice it. Of course, now that I've purchased a Sage, Kobo will come out with an updated version in a few months
