What we seem to have now is endless comic-book movies with bigger and bigger explosions, tired serial-killer thrillers, torture-pornography horror, and unfunny comedies. There's been very little on release in the last five years that has drawn me to the cinema. And if I see one more remake I think I might give up altogether.
One of the things I've always admired about '2001 A Space Odyssey' is that film was made without computer generated special effects that films like 'Star Wars' had. All the scenes in 2001, like the astronauts jogging weightless around the spacecraft were on actual sets. They built the set and rotated it as the astronaut jogged making it appear he was weightless. Ditto the stewardess walking from coach to first class on the spaceship.

Okay, okay, I like HAL too. In fact, notice what you end up with if you move each letter in HAL's name one letter to the right in the alphabet.
