I assume your computer limits your Calibre to 4.21?

You should do routine backups in any case. Not all fails give warning.

If you use the Export/Import all calibre data on the Library Icon, that grabs everything (it will take some time to write it all out to a single external drive. Flash is even slower.) This is not an 'Incremental' backup. It is a Full of both All known Libraries AND your configuration folder.

When you get a new PC , you just run Import from a fresh Calibre install (do not add books until you restore the old stuff)
