Well part 3) is no longer a problem.

I just downloaded and started using NickelClock this morning. With headers enabled (which is not much of a sacrifice on a 10 inch screen) you can get a clock on your reading screen. Installation is no harder than installing a manual firmware update. Easy peasy.
