need help with vertical-rl and css

I use my GloHD exclusive in landscape mode since 2016 with kobo_extra.css and body,div,p,span{-epub-writing-mode: vertical-rl;}. Everything looks fine till ...
Due to notice about the mandatory Kobo update I thought it would be a good idea to update from 3.17.3 to version 4.35.20400.

Now I could use [DeveloperSettings] ForceAllowLandscape=true in Kobo eReader.conf. The disadvantage is that also the Homescreen and all book lists are in landscape; they looks very ugly as they are cutted.

I prefer to continue with the former method which still works but now I miss the space on top/bottom (which is in landspace the long side of the reader.

I played around with some patched and also read a lot in the forum. The slider in the reader do not work. After all I am only able to manipulate left/right (short side).

I hope there is a patch and/or value I can enter into kobo_extra.css to get a little more space above and below the text like it was before.
