I haven't noticed that on my Kobo Aura (6") or my Glowlight Plus (6").

I have heard complaints that the text on the Pocketbook Era is just clearly not as sharp as the text on the Libra 2 and the current Paperwhite, though all three use the same screen and the Paperwhite and Era are both flush screen. So maybe the flush screens can be done badly.
