If you have no preference software-wise (for example, I strongly prefer Kobo software to Kindle) and are used to Kindles, go for the Paperwhite. Personally I don't care whether the screen is flush or recessed, but I do care about screen size (7-8'' is perfect for me). If you feel you'd like a larger screen than the Basic had, get the PW.
