1/ is there any credence that you can downgrade such a kindle by opening it and loading on a firmware downgrade via usb then disconnect the battery and on rebooting it installs the downgrade automatically ???

I thought I saw a link to this somewhere but cant find it now. Is it even possible to do this via the serial port or is that only for oler kindles also?

thanks - chris.
Unfortunately it is indeed not possible at this point to downgrade a non-jailbroken PW5 on firmware 5.14.3+; there are no known working methods to achieve this.

Furthermore, it is always risky to downgrade a device to a firmware version lower than the one it came with. Even though all PW5 are identical from a user perspective, some hardware components (memory chips, wifi module, etc) can be different in PW5 manufactured months or years after the initial release than those released on day one, as the price and availability of those components fluctuates throughout the lifetime of the device. The code to drive your specific hardware is only guaranteed to be present in the version your device shipped with and later versions. Downgrading to a previous version might result in a bricked device.
