And jail breaking is a pain for most people, and with a Kindle, you can never enjoy convenience of wireless again without worrying it will undo. Koreader is not everbody's cup of tea (not mine anyway).

Get a Kobo or PocketBook.
My Kindles NEVER go online, anyway. They are ALWAYS in Airplane Mode. With every device I have, be it a video game console or ebook reader, one of the first thing that I always do is jailbreak it. Mainly because I prefer for MY hardware to behave the way I want it to behave, not the way I'm TOLD it should behave. I do not register any device or software online. I do not allow devices or software to ever "phone home." And if something will not work with "phoning home" or otherwise requiring any cloud-based service, I do not use it. Period.

My original Kindle was the only exception that I've ever made to that rule, and that was because I was, at the time, downloading books from Amazon, so it just made sense. Once I realized, though, that not only were books that I had side loaded disappearing, but that everything I did was logged and sent to the mothership, I put a stop to that as well.

If you like the walled garden experience... that's great... for you. For other's, not much. Now that _I_ control MY device, I am much happier with it.
