Purchasing a licensed book, the author gets paid when you make your one time purchase.
In a subscription model like Kobo Plus or Kindle Unlimited, the author only gets paid when you read their book. And the service has to have some way to know that the book was read.

But I want to know if I can download a Kobo Plus eBooks, strip the DRM, and side load it back to my Kobo (using Calibre so Kobo thinks it's the same eBook) so I can fix the formatting.
