Yes, I think ads can be counter productive. When I didn't have an active membership, there was no avoiding the huge 'sign up' ads.

Even without them the Audible app is a mess, the Library filters don't really work properly, it is effectively impossible to know which things are purchased, which are Audible Plus borrows, which are KU borrows, and it has been this way for at least a couple of years now.

Fortunately there is OpenAudible, so I don't need to use it to listen. Probably not going to renew this time around, I have quite a backlog to work through.
