just tested it with a store bought manga and it behaves properly with that one, so it's just sideloaded books.
I prepare my manga with KCC, chapters packaged into volumes and then sent via calibre
it does see the table of contents properly, it just doesn't understand what chapter I'm on unless it's the first page of the chapter
