when i nest tags by using the dot method, i end up with documents tagged twice. so let's say i tag something. "Philosophy&Theory.Political", the tag column will list both the Philosophy&Theory tag as well as Philosophy&Theory.Political tag. I'd prefer to just have the latter. Is there a way to do that?
That happens if:
  • There is actually a tag named "Philosophy&Theory" in addition to a tag named "Philosophy&Theory.Political".
  • Both tags are applied to the same book.
Use the Tag browser (the left-hand pane) to check if both tags exist. Clicking on a tag with children (like your example) will offer 4 searches:
  • Books with exactly the tag (the tag you are clicking on and its parents if any) (a green +)
  • Books without exactly the tag (a green -)
  • Books with the tag and any of its children (a green ++)
  • Books without thie tag and any of its children (a green --)
Example: two tags, "a" and "a.b". Two books have "a", two books have "a.b". One book has both.

Click on "a" to see the green +. You see books with "a". "a.b" shows on the book with both "a" and "a.b". You don't see the book with only "a.b".

Click on "a" to see the green ++. You see books with "a" and its children, in this case "a.b". This is all three books.
