That would defeat the whole purpose of Marks, which is to be transient, they were originally implemented via a plugin called Temp
orary Marks

You can add non ebook files of any type to any book, but only one of any type - i.e one MP3, one PPTX, etc. Simplest way is to drag and drop the file(s) into the Book Details panel.

This way, the administrator would be able to control the time that the user is in the library. If Caliber was capable of limiting the user's time. We are not just talking about hours but for example: the user chooses the book and is given a reading deadline, after which the user loses access to the book. This encourages reading, making the user accountable.

I get the impression you want to use calibre in an education institution, can you confirm that?

Calibre organises books via a relational database, the author & book folders and files in a calibre library are nothing more than a convenient storage mechanism.
