A lot of the freebie fun was in the handling and library maintenance. Otherwise, I'd be picking up a lot of paper books, and I had to let a lot of my physical stash go over the years. After seeing my grandparents age and have to downsize every few years, only to end up in nursing homes with everything they'd ever collected and loved sold or given away, I don't want to invest in the physical books so much anymore. (Not that I don't have hundreds now.)

I'm a hoarder and collector by nature, so the freebies fed my inclinations for a long time.
