Thank you for your post. It helped me a lot to troubleshoot the problem, as it forced me to check more. It turned out, that Java 64-bit hadn't been properly installed. So, of course, it couldn't work.
I had assumed it was properly installed, without proper checking, as I have never had any problems with it before. My bad ...

The bad installation may (or may not) have to do with the fact that, due to security update 5012170 of windows 11, my taskbar did not appear on login, and I had to restart the windows explorer in the task manager manually, to get it to run. And it screwed up my firefox browser installation. It was only this morning that I was sure the problems were caused by this security update. Removal of this update did the trick to have a working taskbar. Removing and reinstalling firefox solved the other part.
I have sent feedback to Microsoft. Curious to see what they say or do (or don't do).
At least, for this part, the problem wasn't between the keyboard and the chair.
