Can't regiester Kindle touch 4th gen
I recently got a second-hand Kindle and I can't get it registered. I can get it on wifi, but when I put in the email and password it says can't find that account. I double checked it several times and tried perhaps 5 or 6 times, always with the same result. I did a full factory reset at this point, but no change (it was obvious this was done earlier by the previous owner but I did it anyway).
Then I checked my Email later and it said "we are sorry you are having trouble registering your kindle, please use this OTP (one time password) to register your kindle."
Oh great 2nd factor and it didn't say anything about that. And of course the codes all time out after TEN minutes (most OTP codes I deal with last at least 30 minutes to an hour), so they were long dead.
I tried again later and this time when I entered the information it gave a "you are not registered yet, please check your email for further instructions". I did, but no code came through this time. Tried several more times and still no codes. I ended up resetting it and then it gave me the "error no account could be found" like the first few times, but DID give me a one time password in email a minute later.
BUT when I put that in the password field on the Kindle, error. Would not accept it. Tried multiple times with different codes, always the same result.
I did check and apparently Amazon removed the ability to register the serial number on the website, at least easily. I came across an article that said you could still do it by contacting support. Well I did and the guy I got told me to go click the link on the "manage my kindle" which doesn't exist any more lol. Nice, they really train their reps well don't they?
This is insane. They make it so secure it won't work lol. Or more likely they have cut off registering older kindles. I double checked and it has the latest firmware 5.3.7.3 So I am at a loss on what to do next, other than play see how far I can kick a kindle lol.
