A rebate is different in that the user must deal with it. The store sells at the normal price and then the user is obligated to send in the rebate to the issuer and receive the refund. The rebate can be a scam with all sorts of rules that must be explicitly followed in order to get the rebate and sometimes it just never comes at all for unexplained reasons. Many people don't even consider a rebate as a break in the price and just ignore it due to the hassle. Originally rebates were used by car manufacturers to allow the dealer to get full credit for cars they had purchased but now it is often a gimmick as seen by the consumer.

Ok, but what is the difference between instant rebate and coupon in this case? In both cases customer will get discount before pay for the purchase.
