Even if you don't have 2 factor authentication turned on, it is very likely that Amazon sent a code to your cell phone with instructions to put that code in instead of the password. I registered a K3 and a K4 recently, and had to do this for both. It's absolutely insane that Amazon says, on the kindle when you try to register it, that the email address or password is wrong, when it is not wrong. Amazon should send a message saying look for a message on your phone.
Also, if the message on your phone is old, like from an hour ago, it won't work. You have to put in your email address and password again on the kindle, then look for a new message on your phone right away.
