The Fire is using an App. It doesn't work. All Fire models, even if old and having Kindle in the name are not Kindles, they are an Amazon version of an Android tablet with an app.
The absolute newest real eink kindles and newest books work if they are bought & downloaded via Content & Devices.. Borrowed books do not work.
It doesn't work copying off the Kindle. You have to download direct from Amazon website Content & Devices to a NOT kindle or NOT Fire, using a Browser.
