The issue is not data dependent as it happens at unpredictable places in the data as books are processed. So there is no way to boil it down to a an example that fails. What has us stopped cold right now is that when Calibre crashes the log files either from the job in question or even from Calibre in debug mode are lost.
I have tried all suggestions so far with no success. It is the absence of log files that has us stopped.
Can anyone suggest any way to capture this log info?

I popped a link to the referenced OL PI post into your opening post.
Have you tried running the OL job in Windows Safe Mode, if you can't induce the crash in that mode it would indicate that a program that runs in Normal Mode is interfering.
Probably something that runs at startup such as a 3rd party AV, you can use Task Manager to disable startup tasks and/or kill them.
