I’m still watching Father Brown, but it’s mostly hate watching at this point. What made the show good originally, Father Brown’s use of psychology and logic to arrive at a solution and moral issues at odds with legality are largely in abeyance.

Anachronisms abound, a combination of 21st century sensibilities and laziness. I was watching the Christmas episode from season six last night and Father Brown referred to the stricture against lying as the ninth commandment. No. Catholics and Lutherans number the commandments differently from Anglicans and other Protestants and lying is number eight. Can’t they have someone vet the script for this kind of mistake? I know it’s not important but that makes it worse, not better. Why not get what you can right, since there are always going to be clangers that are plot-induced?

Anyway, that was it for me for the evening and I was only about 15 minutes into the episode.
