Device: Kindle basic 3 KT3
Display images on KT3 no longer works after update

My Gf gave me her old kindle basic 2 (KT3)
it was running firmware 5.9.something.

I de-registered it from her account, created an 'images' folder in which i put a few jpg files.
I was then able to select these images and i was able to select and view them from the main page, and they showed up full screen (i'd already sized them to 600 x 800)

The images are simply screenshots of part of an excel file of a trains timetable, i did it this way as kindle can't display .xls files (AFAIK)

I had already tried loading them as .pdf's, but found they do not fill the screen fully, having margins on all sides and that '100%' text in the bottom right corner all the time.

I was very happy with showing the timetable as a full screen image, i intend to use this kindle to show the driving schedule of a train in a simulator (SimRail) so i will need to load about 20 timetables, then simply select the relevant one to match the service i'm driving.... the photo is of the kindle displaying a timetable full screen whilst i was driving a train in the sim.....

Then i went and screwed it all up by pressing the 'update kindle' button that i noticed was showing in the menu's,
It updated to 5.15.1.

This everything changed, mostly i can no longer find a way to access the images that are loaded onto the kindle.

i've tried making a new 'images' folder, a 'pictures' folder, even a 'DCIM' folder, none of these can be accessed on the kindle.

Seem's that this firmware version was done to prevent jailbreaking, so i don't think i can do that either, and i don't think there is an easy way to downgrade to a previous firmware.

Is it just me being thick and not noticing how i now access images on the kindle since the update? or have amazon removed the ability to navigate to and view images that are not part of a book?

I have tried using 'calibre' but so far every format i convert the file to and send to the kindle results in margins, even if i set the margins to zero before sending.... this makes the timetable too small to read easily.

Does anyone know how i can display a full screen image again?
