I'll answer this honestly.
I know by experience that the number of e-books you can buy and then get refunded "automatically" is 5 per month. Actually you can have more refunded, but over 5 you have to do it through Customer service, and it does tend to attract Amazon's attention after a while.
So my limit is precisely this : up to 5 books a month that I will buy, download, deDRM, get refunded and use, knowing that I only do it for books by dead authors, because it is beyond my understanding that a book published, say, when a writer is 25, who then dies at age 90, will remain protected by copyright way, way over a century after initial publication (with inheritors often doing all kind of sh*t with it at that), it just makes no sense.
