A borrowed book is not meant to be yours forever. Once you strip the DRM and sideload it, why not keep it? It will eventually happen out of laziness or neglect if not for any other reason.
Still, I could see that a library book is more acceptable than a KU book due to the scheme used for payment.

tbh I used to leave the books in calibre, but only to avoid borrowing the same story twice. Which I did repeatedly and annoyingly back in the days when I walked to library and checked out actual books to read. Don't bother now.
