How to add sideloaded books by asin or old isbn

In general I am able to add "empty" books to Calibre and after that pulling the metadata by entering the ISBN or ASIN.

But there is a feature in Calibre (sorry if wording is slightly different, as I translate from German) in the add-Book section named add-from-ISBN.

Very often I know only asin or old 10-digit ISBN.
Using "add-from-ISBN" with old 10-digit ISBN creates only an empty dummy book. The IDs field shows "isbn:.........X". If I now click add-Metadata it works well. But why is that not happens immediately in one go?
It works very well when I add 13-digit ISBN into "add-from-ISBN but I don't know where to get this number.

Would it be possible to allow entries like "isbn:....X" or "asin:B..." in add-from-ISBN"?
