Yes! If it is a Keyboard wedge/emulator. It outputs just like a keyboard, except it may have a Prefix code and/or a Postfix code (CR is the usual, but a Tab is another one used).

Unlike the supermarket, the computer has no way of knowing if it is you or something else typing. It puts the output at the cursor. No need to paste if the cursor was where you want the data.

It is all about how it is configured as to what is output (or code system is ignored).
When I first started with Calibre, I used the Add: From ISBN form to do batches of 10-20 . I simply scanned the codes of that batch and stacked them, to resolve issues (metadata not found was common) after EACH ADD.
