This is the third novel in the
Clayhanger trilogy, following no 1. Clayhanger and no 2 Hilda Lessways.
The novels are a fictional saga of a family's life in The Potteries (England) around the end of Victorian times. Though like all good literature, its meaning and message are timeless and apply just as much today as then.
Note that this is taken from a scanned upload by the University of Toronto and amended to remove fixed line length, pagination and a few major catastrophes.
I did enough to make it readable (for my own reading), but it's not in the same league as those by say Patricia.
If you don't know Arnold Bennett's novels, start today with Clayhanger which is already in the Mobileread library. You'll be glad you did.
