Oh man, you owe it to yourself to see The Shining. It really is a great film. If I'm being honest, I prefer it to the book, though they diverge so wildly that they are two different experiences.

And if you really want to fall down a rabbit hole, watch the documentary Room 237, to see how people can over analyze a work of art. People believe The Shining is everything from a commentary on the displacement of the native Americans to Kubrick's confession that he faked the moon landing.
