It is a windows limitation by design.

When I right-click a file (here for example EPUB) in Windows Explorer and choose "Open with" it will offer me all available programs, including both traditional programs and also Modern UI apps (or whatever they are called now, I mean apps installed from Microsoft Store, including, for example, Freda).

But if I use the calibre built-in function to "open with", those modern UI apps are not offered. Is this specific to my installation or a bug or just a limitation?

I have found ways to open those apps from the command line, but not to pass a file to them. Therefore, even the "Open with"-plugin does not help.

If I make the app the standard application for a format, I can click on "View" in calibre and it will open in the app without any problem.
