Gutenberg.org: Nearly 70,000 legally free ebooks according to USA laws. There are other places too.
Amazon Kindle, Google Playstore, Apple Books, kobo, ebooks.com, and smashwords.com sell books. It's obvious they are store (shops) for ebooks. Some sell eink ereaders too. Other places only sell the ereaders.
Or you can use iOS or Android and download free reader apps (that are either for epub generally, or specific for one store/shop). Some libraries can work with some ereaders, or use Libby app or Bolinda Borrowbox app.
Perhaps due to the holidays we've been explaining poorly. It's too obvious when you've bought a phone/tablet/ereader, bought ebooks or downloaded legitimate free ones, installed apps and on Linux, Mac or Windows installed Calibre to manage it all. Then used MobileRead to find help or share tips.
