EDIT: Sorry, it turns out I converted the wrong book in Safe Mode. When I figured it out, went back and tried converting the proper book in Safe Mode, IT DID NOT WORK. Yay? Anyway, that seem to rule out something running on my system. But, why this book would convert properly on other people's systems is beyond me. I assume you guys aren't using AMD equipment.

OP: I booted into Safe Mode and the file converted in 3 seconds without issue. I'm guessing AMD will be sending out another graphics drivers in a couple of days. When I try that one, I'll first try removing the old software and running with whatever Windows defaults to. I expect the problem to go away there, too (as it did with that other problem I mentioned).

It's just odd that it's 100% reproducible with this file and doesn't happen with any other (that I've run into... yet). I'd think that would imply some structural issue with the AZW3 causing the problem.
